Conservation from Sea to Shining Sea
Hampton Roads Water Efficiency Team
Water - Use It Wisely
From Puget Sound to the Chesapeake Bay, a vivid and highly effective
national water conservation campaign - "Water - Use It Wisely" is set
to launch in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia in April. The
Hampton Roads Water Efficiency Team (HR WET) adopted "Water - Use It
Wisely" for many reasons, according to Julia B. Hillegass, Senior
Planner, Environmental
Education for Hampton Roads Planning District Commission.
"HR WET members were very excited about the look of this campaign.
It's sharp and colorful and really takes our efforts to a new level at
an
affordable price," Hillegass said.
The award winning campaign, with its practical tips and colorful
design originated in Arizona but is being adopted by communities
throughout the
country. The Hampton Roads community is the first east coast community
to become part of WUIW and is being closely followed by the
metropolitan Washington D.C. area as well as the research triangle
area of North Carolina.
The campaign will run in HR WET's sixteen member communities,
including ten cities and six counties serving over 1.5 million people.
HR WET
operates under the policy umbrella of the Hampton Roads Planning
District Commission (HRPDC), which consists of elected and top
administrative officials from the region's localities. HR WET's
mission is to encourage Hampton Roads citizens to use water wisely and
make wise water use an everyday habit.
"Water - Use It Wisely," now in its fourth year, is the nation's most
